Berries & Greens Protein Smoothie

Smoothies are one of my favorite meals for breakfast. I love that you can throw all of your ingredients in a blender and go about your day as opposed to an actual meal that you have to sit down for. Smoothies are perfect for people that are on the go and don’t want to take too much time out of their busy morning for breakfast. Not only are they quick, but it’s super easy to get all of your nutrients in first thing in the morning.

Now I don’t know if I’ll ever be the girl that can have some nasty smoothie that’s strictly greens and a bunch of supplements, but I have found a way to get these things in while still having a smoothie that tastes delicious. It’s loaded with berries, greens, and protein. What more could you ask for?

Let’s get started with the fruit. Berries are my absolute favorite and it’s rare for me to go a day without eating them. They are delicious, low in calories, and higher in fiber than most other fruits so naturally this smoothie is loaded with them. Then, I add just a bit of banana. Bananas are good for you but they’re also full of carbs, so I just add a few slices for some sweetness.

Next I add in some greens. Spinach is usually my go-to since I can use it in a variety of ways when I’m cooking. I really try not to waste too much produce when I grocery shop and I can usually find multiple ways to incorporate spinach into different meals. That being said, you can always switch this up with kale or any other green you prefer.

After the fruits and greens are added, I put in some almond milk. I like the unsweetened vanilla since it’s lower in sugar and carbs and to be honest, I don’t need the added sweetness. Aside from the nutrients in almond milk, this will help create the creaminess in the smoothie.

Now it’s time for the add-ins part of the smoothie. I first add in flax seeds because they’re a good source of protein, fiber, and Omega-3 fatty acids (helps inflammation, prevents heart disease, healthy skin, etc.). Then I throw in a scoop of inulin powder for an extra dose of fiber and a scoop of collagen peptides. I use the collagen peptides as my source of protein in the smoothie. One scoop contains 10g protein and is super low in calories and carbs. Plus, it’s non-flavored which I love.

I finish off the smoothie with a few ice cubes and blend away. I promise, for as much nutrients are in this smoothie, you wouldn’t be able to tell when you tasted it. It’s fruity and sweet and creamy and everything you want in a smoothie!
